AutoDesk itself should be considered harmful; they've spent a large amount of resources prosecuting people who sold legitimate used copies of their software. (See also http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2008/05/court-smacks-autodesk-affirms-right-to-sell-used-software.ars)

They spend a lot of resources on making sure that their users are locked-in to their software and systems, rather than making improvements to their products that might actually benefit their users.

One of my business clients, for this and other reasons, chose to spend thousands of dollars instead on Pro/Engineer and its related products.

Useful to know. I know my university uses Pro/E, for example.
